Columbia woman faces felony DUI after pedestrian’s death
Hayes was walking in the painted median when he was struck by a 2000 Dodge, according to Richland County coroner Gary Watts and the patrol. The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 321, also known as the Fairfield Highway, near Crane Church Road.
Hayes died early Sunday morning at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
Watts said an autopsy showed he died from complications of injuries from being struck by Brown’s vehicle.
Brown was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center but is no longer being held there.
