Off-duty cop charged with DUI

A North Charleston police officer was placed on administrative duty after authorities said he wrecked his truck early Thursday while driving under the influence. Stanley Tucker, 27, was held at the Charleston County jail in lieu of a $997 personal recognizance bond, jail records show.

S.C. Highway Patrol troopers said Tucker was off-duty when the incident occurred.

Troopers responded to Ladson Road and U.S. Highway 78 concerning a wreck shortly before 1 a.m., Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said.

A 26-year-old man driving a 2012 Chevy four-door was stopped at a light preparing to make a left turn onto Ladson Road when his vehicle was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck that was turning right onto U.S. 78, Beres said.

Tucker, the pickup’s driver, was charged with DUI and arrested.

It was not immediately known whether Tucker took a Breathalyzer test. A report on the incident was not available.

Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said Tucker has been employed with the department since 2007.

No injuries were reported in the incident, according to the Highway Patrol.
